"Rupay Aanay Pai" (Money Matters), is a short film based on a story by the legendary Indian writer Khwaja Ahmad Abbas. It is quite a traditional story; young man comes to city with high hopes from small town to look for a job. However, the way his struggles and a romance are chronicled by his account of income and expenses, shows the mastery of K.A.Abbas. Joy and happiness as well as his failure and desperation are revealed in numbers on discarded pages found in a used book sold on a road side stand.

A film, “Beneath the Sea”, is based on one act play by the internationally acclaimed Egyptian writer Tawfiq al-Hakim (1898-1987), which was adapted in the Urdu language in 1970 for Pakistan Television (PTV) by Amjad Islam Amjad (the script has been translated into English by the researcher). In a way the film is an amalgamation of three societies; Egypt, England and Pakistan: A screenplay derived from the Egyptian script, which is performed by English actors under the director from Pakistani origin. The experimentation is to push the boundaries of national cinema, and tries to achieve a style which is more suitable in the new transnational or global environment.
The minimalist approach has been followed in stage setting, as it is linked with the tradition of folk theatre, which helps to symbolize a utopian space in the midst of geographical borders. The technological advancement has been further blurring the boundaries. However, “Beneath the Sea”, is a concentrated effort to examine the various possibilities of simple storytelling with the minimum possible equipment.
